Sony CX150: Not bad September 4, 2010

I got this camera as an HD home video camera. I have a $7000 Sony EX-1 that I use professionally, so it's hard for me to be fair when rating something as basic as this camera, but for under $500, the overall video quality is great. Because of the limitations of touch-screen devices, it is VERY difficult to shoot with manual iris, focus, or white balance, and all but IMPOSSIBLE to do all three simultaneously. Again, you get what you pay for, and for very basic, high-quality video, this gets the job done. If you use FCP and/or a Mac, you may have some difficulty working with the raw files (AVCHD), as FCP does not yet import them natively and the capture software that the device comes with is for PC only. I recommend Roxio Toast as a solution. Also, you can't tell from the picture, but the camera is SPARKLY blue. Oooooh!
Great HD Camcorder for the money August 17, 2010

Love this camcorder. The playback in 1080i is crystal clear and amazing. The recordings under dim light is fair too. The still camera pictures are not great but still good quality. The best part is the motion stability...works very well. Very easy to use and packaged with a good software to import from the camcorder.
The only real dislike is the grip...its hard to press the record button or the zoom without having to use two hands. The strap size and positioning makes it a little difficult.
Overall, camcorder is great for beginners and amateurs with a great price for an HD camcorder.

Dark Blue Color available from BestBuy Only.
From owning a Mini-DV camera using MiniDV tapes for the last 8 years ( which I already thought was goog quality) I never imagined I would have own a Video capture device of this calibre.
Pro's:
* HD Output via HDMI.
* Lightweight.
* Nice touch screen controls on. Easy to navigate.
* Simple Design. No Viewfinder, No power button.
* Simple Unit Power-on achieved by opening touch screen.
* Internal 16GB is sufficient for daily use. Option to install additional memory or SD Stick.
Con's:
* No Remote-Control Option. I miss the remote control. I like to hardwire the unit to my HDTV and control from my couch. I can do not have that option.
* Should include Mini-HDMI cable by default. The cable costs only $5 in Amazon.
* Getting to a point that the camera can be too small for average adult hands. Clasping the unit on your palm and controlling it with finger tips is slightly challenging at first. One thing is that your 8 year old can easily take videos as well.
Overall I am happy with the purchase. I would immediately buy a 30mm filter to protect the lens. A extended battery would also be a good idea for those long shoots...
